Synopsis
A young woman's journey after losing the position she had held in Beijing for ten years. Beibei, the protagonist, hates the standard life of an ideal wife and mother. In an effort to keep up with everyday life, she navigates different types of intimate relationships, grapples with the idea of romantic love, and embarks on a journey of deep self-exploration. The trip creates a dialogue with different generations that makes it possible to question in depth the role of women in contemporary Chinese society: how relationships are determined, what are the rules and expectations that govern them, and subsequent perspectives.
Director
She is a Chinese director, painter, artist, and feminist activist. She has held two solo art exhibitions called Leaving Beijing and Letting You In. She also has two video creations of performance art works: Casting Away and Looking for a Sperm. Her feature film, This Woman, won the Zonta Award Prize for a Female Filmmaker and Special Jury Award in the International Competition at Visions du Réel.
