The Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), in its 31st edition with Switzerland as its guest of honor, is pleased to present the fifth edition of Premio Maguey, which will take place on March 4-11th, 2016.
Premio Maguey is an award bestowed to movies that support, encourage and promote innovative cinema with stories around an open sexuality and queer subject matters. In its five years, Premio Maguey has established itself as one of the most important competition selections within the Guadalajara International Film Festival, with an international roaster which makes it the only one of its kind in Latin America.
“Evolution”, this year’s theme, describes the five years of Premio Maguey and the great moment that Queer cinema is going through today, bringing a universal appraisal of what has been the fight for equal rights and the acceptance of different sexualities in a social and political context. This year we plan on celebrating this path of success, pushing for its legitimation in Mexico and Latin America.
Premio Maguey presents the image of its fifth edition; a blank space always leaves an opportunity to build the ideal scenery. Within this possible and recreative micro-universe, Francisco Tostado recovers a selection of fragments of innocence, desire and pleasure that get tangled to generate a memory which alludes to the unconscious and at the same time to the quest of an order that does not follow any rule other than its own; the perfect place to continue and break the impositions is the same blank space for a perfect evolution.
